New Floors aren’t Worth the Back Pain

Posted on: May 16th, 2016 by The Carpet Guys

You know that feeling you get in your back by sleeping wrong on it? Not the most comfortable feeling in the world.

Now imagine that feeling, but that back pain is caused by installing flooring for hours on end.

You’re in for a rough night, friend.

That is unless you skip the do-it-yourself agenda and have a professional install it for you.

Installing new floors isn’t the easiest job to do. It can be pretty strenuous without the right materials and experience. That’s why having a professional do the moving and installing for you is your best bet.

Why should I hire Professionals?

You might be thinking, “I can do this on my own. It will save me some money.”

What’s more important? Your wallet or your personal health?

Think about it like moving out of a home. The first thing you’ll do is call up a bunch of friends and ask them for help. Then, you have to get everything out of the rooms, load it up in your vehicle, and unload it at your new place.

Mikey Rox, the founder of Paper Rox Scissors, spoke with John Bodrozic, the co-founder of HomeZada about the topic of hiring a professional for your moving needs.

“Hiring a professional mover eliminates the potential for injury,” says John. “Keep your friends and family happy by just inviting them over for the housewarming party, not the moving bit.”

Proper Lifting Tips from the Family Doctor

It’s important to know how to lift properly if you’re adamant on moving everything on your own. Any wrong move can damage your back or cause accidental breakage of your keepsakes.

Family Doctor has some great tips on lifting such as:

  • Make sure you have a tight grip on the object you’re lifting.
  • Don’t arch your back and try to avoid reaching out for a heavy object.
  • Use your legs and arms to lift, not your back.
  • Avoid jerky movements as they can strain your back muscles.
  • Get help from a friend or family member if the object is too heavy for you alone.

The Family Doctor has more great tips you may find useful, so take a look at their website.

Protect your Back with The Carpet Guys

As we said before, installing carpet is no the easiest job to do. The Carpet Guys care about you and your health, so let us handle the heavy lifting.

Peter F. Ullrich Junior, a retired MD Orthopedic Surgeon, wrote an article for Spine Health about what damages can occur from heavy lifting.

“When the muscles or ligaments in the low back are strained or torn, the area around the muscles will usually become inflamed,” says Ullrich. “The inflammation leads to back spasm, and it is the back spasm that can cause both severe lower back pain and difficulty moving.”

Our carpet installers have been trained to do what they do. Why risk your health moving heavy furniture and installing flooring when we can do it for you?
