Solid Hardwood Floors

Traditional hardwood flooring planks are made of one solid piece of wood, with a tongue on one side, and a groove on the other. In a proper installation, each plank of solid hardwood is fixed to your home's substrate by nailing or stapling the plank directly to the decking that sits on top of your home's floor joists. If your home's substrate is made of concrete, installing a hardwood floor could turn out to be a big headache with an undesirable finished result, and is not something that we recommend doing. There are adhesives on the market that manufacturer’s claim will keep hardwood attached to a concrete slab, but as a natural product, hardwood is susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity??"and the adhesive will eventually fail. The Carpet Guys encourage you to explore other flooring options if this is the case in your home.

One of the greatest benefits of having traditional hardwood flooring installed is that should you decide to have the floors sanded and refinished, you have the option of changing the wood’s existing color. Be advised; if your floors have a hand-scraped texture, the process of sanding and refinishing them will remove the texture and take the floors down to a smooth feel.

Considered the best-of-the-best by both homeowners and contractors alike, hardwood flooring prices can be resonable if you select the right type for your room. While traditional hardwood is a luxurious product to have in one’s home, as a natural product, it will eventually fade, scratch, and dent, as well as swell and contract through Michigan’s ever-changing seasons, leaving gaps between boards.
