As the fastest-growing segment of the residential flooring industry, it’s no surprise that homeowners have plenty of questions regarding the best way to care for luxury vinyl flooring.

COREtec, the bestselling luxury vinyl product in America, is a dimensionally stable, 100% waterproof luxury vinyl product that resists scratches, dents, and fading due to UV exposure. COREtec flooring comes from Georgia-based USFloors and is manufactured right here in the USA.

To help you keep your luxury vinyl plank or luxury vinyl tile looking bright and beautiful, we went straight to the source to get tips on proper LVP care and maintenance from the folks at COREtec.

Loose dirt and grit can cause irreparable damage to luxury vinyl flooring (or any flooring, really). To stop these abrasive materials from marring your new flooring, sweep your floors thoroughly and frequently.

Since COREtec flooring is waterproof, you won’t have to worry about damaging your new flooring by giving it a quick once-over with a damp mop.

Avoid using pre-treated dusting cloths, though, as the chemicals in the cloth may permanently damage your new flooring or leave a residue behind that dulls your floor’s beautiful finish.

When your floor is in need of a more thorough cleaning, use a pH-neutral cleaner; don’t ever use cleaning products that contain detergents. As a rule, COREtec recommends using Shaw’s R2X Hard Surface Cleaner for cleaning their products.

For stubborn spots that R2X won’t remove, gently buff the spot with isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a clean white towel.

How to Keep Your COREtec Floors Looking Good

As we stated earlier in this post, abrasive materials such as dirt and sand can wreak havoc on a floor in no time. To minimize the amount of particulate matter that enters your home, use floor mats at all of your home’s entryways, and always ask guests to remove their shoes upon entering your home. Be sure to use mats that do not have rubber or latex backings, as these materials may cause discoloration of your flooring.

Over time, your floor’s finish may begin to dull in high-traffic areas of your home. If you find that your floor has lost its luster, there are specialty products made to extend the life of your flooring. Should this occur, clean your floors, apply two-to-three coats of Hilway Direct to your COREtec flooring, and allow it to sit overnight before resuming regular foot traffic throughout your home.
